Are you looking for ways to capture the attention of passersby, increase footfall, make a lasting impression, or get picked up in the press? Projection mapping is the answer. A powerful tool in marketing and beyond, expert projection mapping services can mean the difference between being remembered and getting left behind your competitors.
If you’re intrigued, let us tempt you further. In this post, we’ve collected nine examples of our best and most standout work across multiple sectors using a variety of techniques to inspire your next idea.
1. Interactive arcade game on the V&A Museum exterior for Genesis Car Company
One of our most ambitious and well-known projections, this event, which caught nationwide press attention, is a serious testament to how powerful a projection mapping display can be and what Motion Mapping is capable of.
In collaboration with the car company Genesis’ creative agency ScienceMagic.Inc, we designed, built and projected the world’s tallest arcade action onto the side of the V&A museum in London during an exhibit celebrating Korean pop culture.
This game was fully interactive, allowing the public to play a classic Korean-style Pac-Man-esque arcade game at a colossal scale, where players drive a car instead of a Pac-Man character. all from controls within Hyundai’s new electric car. This was all to showcase that appliances can be run from this new car, which was demonstrated through players being able to run a game from it. One of our favourite interactive installations to date, this interactive display shows just what proper projection mapping can achieve.
2. Visual installation for the Big Game 16 at Twickenham
Being asked to help put on a showstopping display at the world-famous Allianz Stadium Twickenham was an absolute honour. The Big Game is an annual rugby event for the Harlequins and Harlequins Women, and Big Game 16 needed to be bigger than ever.
Working with The Sports Presentation Company, we projected their vibrant and fast-paced rugby legends visual onto the pitch using four projectors to ensure every single fan got the best view possible. Even better, those watching on TV from home were able to enjoy the pre-game spectacle too.
3. World’s first immersive DC-themed restaurant
What comic book lover wouldn’t want to dine in the depths of Gotham City, or surrounded by the night sky? In the world’s first immersive DC-themed restaurant, this was a possibility. Named Park Row after the notorious Gotham City street in DC’s Batman universe, this restaurant offered diners the chance to eat in Gotham City style.
In a separate room sat the visuals, projected seamlessly across all four walls for a completely immersive experience to those eating, drinking, or socialising inside. The restaurant team had the power to change the visuals to meet the requests of the private users, who could pre-arrange what they wanted projected to suit the party’s style.
4. Floating food visuals for Rennie heartburn ad campaign
We know all too well that some foods can come back to haunt you. Rennie, the UK’s favourite heartburn solution, wanted to stand out with their 2022 Halloween ad campaign. They came to us to make their idea a reality: projecting floating foods to portray the idea of certain foods haunting you. Think burgers, pizzas, and chicken wings!
Filmed in the early hours in London outside fast food restaurants and food trucks, we used gauze and projection to create the visual of ghostly foods, with actors filmed reacting spooked by the snacks. The result was a fantastic ad promoting Rennie heartburn and indigestion tabs for those tucking into fast food on Halloween, made possible by real-life projection mapping techniques rather than CGI.
5. Magical festive visuals on the Queens Hotel exterior
LeedsBID wanted to bring families and visitors out to experience the magic of the festive season in the heart of the city through awe-inspiring projection. In collaboration with Pro Audio Systems and creative studio Onionlab, we as a project team delivered a massive visual spectacle on the front of Queens Hotel.
Bright and enchanting festive scenes and engaging storytelling played across the hotel via projection and audio, serving as an incredible backdrop for the whimsical Christmas market in the city square in front of it. We’ve been a part of this project team for two years running, helping to boost footfall and promote the city as a whole.
6. Countdown to cricket visual installation on Tower Bridge
England is world-renowned for its incredible English cricket teams, so what better way to promote the season than with a colossal projection onto the side of Tower Bridge in London? Back in 2023, we cast images of cricket captains Ben Stokes and Heather Knight using gauze and projectors to get the city excited about the countdown to The Ashes.
This installation was a public favourite, with cricket fans across the country loving the display dedicated to their team captains. Perfect for promotions, this projection on a massive scale really captured the attention and engagement of sports fans.
7. Projecting onto a 73m wind turbine with Octopus Energy
This one was a doozy! For Yorkshire Day in, you’ve guessed it, Yorkshire, Octopus Energy and local newspaper The Yorkshire Post teamed up to broadcast a happy message in celebration of the day and the county.
We stepped up to the challenge and projected onto the colossal 73 metre tall wind turbine, with moving Octopus Energy visuals alternating with ‘Happy Yorkshire Day’ messaging onto the tower, and the White Rose of York onto the rotor blades. The blades span through the rose projection, creating a stunning effect and portraying the rose in a unique and exciting way.
8. Lighting up Stonehenge for a world-first experience
We can’t write a post about incredible examples of projection mapping without mentioning the work we did at Stonehenge back in 2018. We were part of a small project team to create a showstopping event with DJ Paul Oakenfold and the English Heritage charity, bringing music and good vibes to the iconic and historic site.
We projected the team’s mesmerising visuals onto the stones themselves, creating a spectacular experience for the dancers as they moved to Paul Oakenfold’s live set through their headphones. Hypnotic and captivating, the event was a true success and a fantastic case study for the intricacies of projection mapping.
9. Interior and exterior Halloween visuals for a private event
Projection doesn’t always need to be commercial; our team projected multiple terrifying visuals onto the exterior and interior of a private home in London for an unforgettable Halloween party. Ghastly green ghouls flew across the outside of the building while the inside featured clawing hands, spooky messages, and creepy characters and critters to spook the partying guests.
Thanks to the building’s location, many passersby were able to enjoy the exterior spectacle too, with people stopping in the street to record the vibrant and realistic projection.
