It’s lovely to watch children’s faces staring agog. If you can retain the attention of the young on people’s shoulders in the cold, then it clearly did the job it was supposed to do!

What the client wanted

Department store Fenwick in Colchester wanted to create a real wow factor for its Christmas Festive Showcase using its Christmas branding. The front of its shop provided an opportunity to do something special, to create a high street spectacle ahead of the switching on of the Christmas lights on Colchester High Street.

Our concept

This was a truly collaborative project. We worked with Fenwick and marketing agency KAT marketing to design an animated film that brought the shop front to life. We created a Christmas story to entertain Colchester. Central to the story was a white dove that had been given the name Snowy through a local social media campaign.

As well as the visual story, we also created a soundtrack to make a more emotional connection with the public. Our projected film and soundtrack were immediately followed by the illumination of the high street Christmas lights.

The animation was then made available to view in store throughout the festive period.

The result

Thousands of people turned out to see the animation and the Christmas lights being switched on.  The shop front acted like a cinema screen which gave even more impact to our projection mapping. It captured the crowd’s imagination and provided the perfect lead in to the Christmas lights.

The reaction on social media was amazing with people commenting on how much they enjoyed the show.

What the client says

“It’s lovely to watch children’s faces staring agog. If you can retain the attention of the young on people’s shoulders in the cold, then it clearly did the job it was supposed to do,” says Katie Skingle, director of KAT Marketing.

“Stuart’s a lovely guy and was very helpful in terms of understanding what was needed. He fulfilled what was required of the brief and it was wonderful.”

Fenwick was delighted with the result and are keen to do something similar in the future.
