Future Stores, a flagship hub for retail innovation on London’s Oxford Street, needed a way to make its wall-to-wall LED screens shine brighter than anything else on the high street. With Motion Mapping’s expert programming, seamless show control, and ongoing system mastery, we partnered with Mood Media to turn 400m² of screens into a living, breathing digital experience that keeps brands – and shoppers – captivated.

BRIEF

Future Stores, sitting in pride of place on Oxford Street – Europe’s busiest street and right next to London’s busiest tube station – is a space built for innovation, engagement, and experience. This 435m² flagship store was created to give brands maximum visibility and impact… but how could that be achieved in a way that truly sets them apart? The answer: digital canvases of high-spec LED screens covering every wall and ceiling.

Their ambitious vision needed highly advanced programming and show control, as well as ongoing support into the future. With a clear need for technical expertise, we were brought in by Mood Media, a leading experiential media company who are redefining the in-store retail customer experience. We were tasked with handling the Green Hippo media servers and playback systems, ensuring smooth, seamless content playback for the store’s brands and customers.

Nick Phillips (Vice President of Design and Engineering at Mood Media’s Advanced Solutions Group) said, “For the Future Stores project, we needed additional expertise to help create and navigate the project’s complexities through an ever-changing scope.” They partnered with us because, in Nick’s words, “What truly sets Motion Mapping apart is not just their technical prowess, of which their entire organisation has an immense wealth of, but their collaborative spirit also.”

EXECUTION

Future Stores boasts 400m² of crystal clear LED screens across its walls, support pillars, and ceiling. These screens display extremely large file sizes and resolutions, with a single five-minute video file reaching a whopping 160GB per 12 screens due to the sheer pixel count and visual complexity. This requires incredibly precise media server programming and synchronisation, which we were responsible for.

As the project, along with its usage and intent, evolved, we saw that there was room for system improvements. We enhanced the system design for remote management, simpler content ingestion, and far easier client turnover for the ever-changing brands using the store. We also offered content support and assisted with content specifications, as well as recreation when needed.

This isn’t just a one-and-done event; Future Stores is a permanent fixture on Oxford Street, which means ongoing support and maintenance are required so that every brand showcased gets the WOW treatment they deserve. We’re available to Future Stores for any help needed, including delivering on-site support when custom or non-standard requirements pop up. We’ve built personalised tools for content ingestion and system monitoring to maintain uptime, and we cover and manage all updates to ensure the operational stability of the Hippo servers. The screens are the heart of the visitor experience, and our team ensures they stay alive and dazzling at all times – because when the visuals go dark, so does the magic.

WOW MOMENT

Motion Mapping partnered with Mood Media in transforming Future Stores from a high-spec concept into a flawlessly executed, fully immersive visual experience. Managing 400m² of ultra-high-resolution LED screens, our team continues to ensure every frame plays seamlessly, perfectly synchronised, and without compromise.

Essentially, beyond the technical wizardry, we improved systems, created bespoke tools, and still provide ongoing hands-on support that keeps the store alive, dynamic, and future-proof.

Nick Phillips said, “Motion Mapping integrated seamlessly as true partners on a complicated and difficult project, and their tireless dedication to achieving our shared vision made all the difference to the eventual award-winning success of Future Stores.”
